At the event, the National Anthem of
the Republic of Azerbaijan was played, and the memory of the compatriots who
became martyrs for the liberation of our lands during the January 20 tragedy
was honored with a minute of silence.
Opening the event with a speech,
Associate Professor Yusif Agayev, Acting Rector of the Azerbaijan Academy of
Labor and Social Relations, spoke about the massacre carried out by the Soviet
army and emphasized that this tragic event is eternally engraved in the memory
of our people.
Associate Professor Agayev recalled
the press conference held by the National Leader Heydar Aliyev at Azerbaijan's
Permanent Representation in Moscow, where he raised awareness of the tragedy.
He noted that after the National Leader's return to political power, the memory
of the martyrs was immortalized, and January 20 was declared a national day of
mourning, with the tragedy receiving a political and legal assessment. Agayev
also highlighted that the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev,
has always honored the memory of the January 20 martyrs and paid special
attention to addressing the social issues of their families.
Subsequently, speeches were delivered
by the Dean of the "Social Work" Faculty, Associate Professor
Nurangiz Mikayilova; the Dean of the "Finance and Economics" Faculty,
Associate Professor Lala Mahmudova; the Chair of the Student Trade Union
Committee of the "Finance and Economics" Faculty, Aysel Hasanova; and
a fourth-year student of the "Social Work" Faculty, Ilkin Ibrahimov.
The speakers emphasized the
importance of remembering such chapters of our history and reminding the youth
of them.
