Fuzuli region borders on Iran in the south-east. The area of the region is 1386 km2, the population is 118900 (01.01.2011). The center is Fuzuli city.

Fuzuli was occupied on August 23, 1993. As a result of the occupation 528 people were killed, 1309 people were disabled. The number of internally displaced persons is 115992. 6 people of the region were awarded the title of National Hero of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
 
​As a result of the occupation 1 city, 1 settlement, 1 urban-type settlement, 71 villages, 15 historical monuments, 86 secondary schools, 2 technical schools, 54 kindergartens, 10 musical school, 27 clubs, 2 museums, 90 libraries, 13 hospitals, 65 medical centers were destroyed, burned and looted by Armenian invaders.
